Why do children attend beauty pageants?
Children often attend beauty pageants because their parents
pressure them into doing them. Their parents may have been pageant queens when
they were young, or it may have always been their dream to get a crown, whether
if its theirs or their child’s. In some cases, the children actually want to do
beauty pageants because it is a day they can be primped, preened and look
pretty. Children also often have a very competitive side and a little
competition is good for them.
How are children affected by child beauty pageants?
Child beauty pageants are claimed to boost the
self-confidence of children. But they also release the message that beauty is
what’s on the outside, how much make-up you put on and how sparkly your dress
is. What people don’t see behind these pageant smiles, are the long term affects
of beauty pageants on children. In attempt to look beautiful, many children may
try and starve themselves. It has been proven that some beauty pageant
participants are often very stressed and even have negative self-esteem, which
may lead to various mental and physical health
problems.
What is needed to win a beauty pageant?
Judges look for poise, style, beauty and talent in beauty
pageants. Girls need to prepare an elaborate routine that show off their pearly
teeth and sparkly dresses. In order to win a Glitz pageant, participants have to
have well made up hair and glitzy dresses. Judges want to see the participant’s
personality shine through while they’re doing their routine. Natural Pageants do
not require as much primping and a participants are judged on their natural
beauty.
